Process and Anatomy: A Profile of Artist Diana Arvanites
by Casey Brewton

Moving forward, experimenting, never ceasing to change or grow, that’s the basis of Charlotte-based artist Diana Arvanites’ work. Finding joy in incompleteness and seeing beauty in the ephemeral, Arvanites is a process-oriented artist. Her favorite part of art is the making. With a solid foundation of inspiration derived from her innate nature, her family’s nurture, and her self-professed bad taste, her artistic projects bring new awareness and rekindle sensory experiences for her viewers.

A Thousand Plateaus

My recent work focuses on systems and how they become an integrated whole. It is my interest in philosophy, archeology, science, bricolage, and cartography drives me to investigate and explore this abstracted reality. By drawing upon many combinations of the parts to create a whole, I arrive at interconnectivity and balance in my work. The final work contains interwoven elements of drawing and painting, high and low, fluid and linear, controlled and spontaneous, throughout my process of art making. Ultimately, each of my paintings is a combination and recombination of the inspiration, layered with process and discovery.
